Admissions Process

How To Apply

Pitt-Johnstown admits Freshman and Transfer applicants on a rolling admission basis for the fall and spring. Students may choose to apply using our fee-waived on-line application or downloadable paper application.  

Freshmen Applicants

A Freshman Applicant is a student who has graduated from high school, or received a GED, and has not enrolled at another college or university as full-time degree seeking student.  To be considered for admission freshman applicants must submit:

  • Application for Admission 
  • Official High School Transcript or Self-Reported Academic Record (available on the On-Line Application for Admission) 

Optional items include: 

  • SAT/ACT Exam Scores 
  • Letter(s) of Recommendation  
  • Essay 

Highly qualified students may be considered for early admission to a University of Pittsburgh graduate program through our Guaranteed Admission option.

Transfer Students

A transfer applicant is a student who is currently or has been previously enrolled in another institution of higher learning and has completed 12 or more credits.  To be considered for admission a transfer applicant must submit: 

  • Application for Admission 
  • Official High School Transcript or GED 
  • Official transcripts from all colleges/universities previously attended 

Optional items include: 

  • Letter(s) of Recommendation  
  • Essay

Options Program

The Options Program is the University of Pittsburgh's response to the increasing number of highly qualified students seeking admission to Pitt. Qualified students who are unable to be offered admission to the University of Pittsburgh may choose to enroll at Pitt-Johnstown to complete their four-year degree or pursue relocation to the Pittsburgh campus. 

  • Option Applicants are not required to submit any additional documentation to be considered for admission to Pitt-Johnstown.

Mountain Cat Dual Enrollment Applicants

The Mountain Cat Dual-Enrollment Experience is designed for motivated, qualified high school students who wish to enroll in one or more courses at Pitt-Johnstown.

Visiting Student Applicants

A visiting student is someone who elects to enroll as a non-degree seeking student for a single semester before returning to their home college or university to complete their degree. Fall and spring Visiting Student applications are processed by the Office of Admissions.
