William G. McKelvey, owner and operator of McKelvey Oil Company, Inc. for over 40 years, and a past member of the Pitt-Johnstown Board of Advisors passed away on March 31, 2019.
“The community has lost a great leader; the university has lost a tremendous supporter; and we will all miss our friend. We express our deepest condolences to the McKelvey family,” said Pitt-Johnstown President Jem Spectar in a statement.
Mr. McKelvey served as an active member of the Pitt-Johnstown Board of Advisors from 1981 until 1996, and had served as Chair from 1987 until 1993. Mr. McKelvey was a native of Wilkinsburg, a colonel in the Civil Air Patrol and was a licensed pilot.
He served on numerous boards in several counties, namely: Salix State Bank, Mason Dixon Council, Boy Scouts of America, Pennsylvania Petroleum Association, Lions, Sunnehanna Country Club, Pilots Association, Somerset Country Club, Fulton County Medical Center, Industrial Development of Fulton County, Jaffa Shrine, National Oil Jobbers Council, and Allegheny Club.
His wife, Jeanne Wolford McKelvey, was honored in 2015 as a Pitt-Johnstown Distinguished Alumna. She was owner, director, vice president and legal counsel for McKelvey Oil Company, Inc., and was an owner and director for MountainTop Technologies, Inc. They were married 37 years at the time of her passing in 2015.
Mr. McKelvey is survived by his loving children, Colt A. (Rachel) McKelvey, Chey Y. (Cody) McKelvey-Todaro, and Dr. Robert J. (Sharon) McKelvey; grandchildren; Leanne, Laura, Joshua, John, Joseph, Lydia, and Ava. Great granddaughter, Finley DeSoto; brother, Robert T. (Arlene) McKelvey, Washington, PA; brothers-in-law; Dr. Gary Wolford and Dr. Larry Wolford. Also, numerous nieces and nephews.
