Campus Community Mourns Passing of Retired Professor Edward Vizzini, PhD

Retired Pitt-Johnstown professor Edward Vizzini, PhD, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2019. He was 76 years old.

Dr. Vizzini made an indelible imprint on our campus as the first Chair of the Division of Natural Sciences on our Richland Campus.

Born and raised in Johnstown and Pitt educated, Dr. Vizzini was hired as an Instructor of Chemistry in 1968. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1970 and became the Chair of Natural Sciences in 1971. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1975 and Professor in 1982. He remained at Pitt-Johnstown until 1987 and completed his career at the Southern College of Technology in Marietta, Georgia before retiring to Arizona.

Since Dr. Vizzini left Pitt-Johnstown, the Division has annually awarded the Dr. Edward A. Vizzini Teacher of the Year Award.  Since 1988, this award has gone to dozens of colleagues across the sciences who have embodied excellence in the classroom.
