Campus Mourns Passing of Retired Associate Professor Dr. Richard Slick

Retired University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Associate Professor Emeritus Richard D. Slick, PhD, passed away at age 93 on March 28, 2019, in Palmyra, Lebanon County, PA.

Dr. Slick was part of the English Department from 1965 until his retirement in 1987.

Born on June 13, 1925, in Johnstown, he was a graduate of Johnstown High School and earned his BA and PhD from the University of Pittsburgh and his MA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946, taught English at Ferndale High School, and then joined Pitt-Johnstown first as an assistant instructor. He became an assistant professor in 1970 and was promoted to associate professor in 1973.

He was a frequently published poet and writer of letters to the editor.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Myrna Hays Slick, as well as a son, Douglas (Sandy); grandchildren Marcella (Basil) and Jacob; and a great-granddaughter, Mila.
