Supernal Siesta Wins Shark Tank Top Prize

Supernal Siesta by Laura Johnson was the winner of the Fall 2018 Pitt-Johnstown Entrepreneurs Idea Lab Shark Tank. Johnson landed $1,000 from The Picking Entrepreneurship Education Fund, Adelle and Skip Picking.

Runners-up were Fit Prep Pro by Dominic Eppley and FlyHighGPS by Scott Kuczala. Each earned $500 from The Picking Fund.

The creative competition was held at the John P. Murtha Center for Public Service and National Competitiveness on December 4 and December 6. The event is in cooperation with the The Picking Entrepreneurship Education Fund. Money awarded is for the further development of the products.

"At this Fall's final pitch, the judges have affirmed that this group of winners have ideas that should be readied for market," said Pitt-Johnstown Assistant Professor of Marketing and Shark Tank Advisor Skip Glenn. "We are hoping to build some experiences and resources for them over the summer to bring their ideas to the next level and encourage them to present at PITTchFEST."

Supernal Siesta is for women who are managing hot flashes and effects of menopause by offering a technology that helps them stay cool and rested through the night.

Judges included Johnstown-area business people and dignitaries: Mike Kovatich, owner of MDR Global, MediaExchange; Mike Hruska, founder of Problem Solutions; Ethan Stewart, Centennial Financial Group; Joel Bezek, partner at Opthalmic Associates; John Polacek of JWF Defense Systems; Eber Verhovsek, owner of Eber HVAC Inc.; Jasper Nielsen, Croyle-Nielsen Therapeutic co-owner and CEO; Brian Ayers of ARCH Global Precision; and Howard “Skip” Picking.
