Richard Wagner spent his summer internship working for Jerry Thomas Land Surveying as a surveyor’s intern/surveyors assistant. His work included house stakeouts, residential property surveys, and researching deeds at various County Courthouses. Richard learned valuable surveying skills that will be useful for future field work as an Environmental Scientist.

Shane Supanick completed his internship with the Somerset County Conservation District. Shane was busy this summer learning about acid mine drainage remediation, completing trail maintenance at recreational facilities, monitoring water levels and water quality at numerous municipal wells, completing kick-net surveys of macro-invertebrates for stream restoration and trout habitat monitoring.

Alex was very busy this summer assisting CEC's ecologist with various tasks in the field (wetlands, streams, vegetation and habitat, biomonitoring, geomorphic assessments), lab, and in the office. He enjoyed his field work and preparing for a career as an Environmental Scientist.

Joece Lynn completed her summer internship as Part Time Research Support in the Roots Lab at Penn State University. Joece worked in both the lab and the greenhouse assisting post docs with exciting research including drought resistant corn.

Environmental Studies major Halee Sesock completed her internship with the PennDOT Cultural Resource Management Team. Halee was in the final stage of processing for an archaeological survey report, filing. Halee also worked on creating GIS maps that highlight historic and archaeological site/survey locations that are present along the PA section of the Appalachian Trail.

Environmental Studies major Austin Danel completed his internship with EADS Group in Johnstown. Austin was busy using GIS to update maps for a local municipality, including the addition of new manholes, sewer mains, laterals that branch off to houses, and viewports. Austin also assisted with taking field notes for a proposed gas line replacement project to ensure that all of the water and gas lines on the base maps are in the correct locations.

Cory Snook completed his summer internship as a research assistant for a Michigan State University graduate student working at the Kellogg Biological Station. This research focused on how heatwaves affect the relationship and development of Colorado Potato Beetles and the potato plants. This experiment will give us a glimpse of the future of Colorado Potato Beetles and potato crop relationships due to the rising and irregular temperature from climate change.

Environmental Studies senior Chance Eutin completed his internship mapping existing trails and marking new trails at Nathan's Divide Watershed Education Center in Ebensburg.

Environmental Studies Senior Matthew Chervassi completed his internship at Flight 93 National Memorial. Matt participated in environmental restoration efforts at the park, and spent most of his time informing visitors of the park's history.
