Publications and Performance

Pitt-Johnstown provides opportunities in publications and media for students of all majors. These organizations offer practical experiences in the fields of journalism, creative writing, broadcasting, and business. Each organization provides the opportunity for actively involved students to earn one practicum credit per term.

The Advocate – Student Newspaper

The Advocate, Pitt-Johnstown’s student newspaper, is published weekly during the school year.

The Advocate is staffed and managed by Pitt-Johnstown students. The publication is made available to the Pitt-Johnstown community at no cost.

The mechanics of the paper include editing and layout through the use of Apple Macintosh computer system.

The Advocate's photographers also take, develop, and print their own photographs.

Students interested in writing, photography, advertising, or business are invited to join the staff. A practicum credit is available to students participating actively on the staff.

Concert Band

Concert Band is dedicated to music performance and music appreciation. The Concert Band encourages growth and provides to the community free-of-charge concerts that they sponsor and perform at the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center.

Concert Choir

The UPJ Concert Choir is the official vocal ensemble of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. The Concert Choir performs a concert each term and also performs in the Johnstown community. Membership is open to all students. There is also an option available for students to take Concert Choir as one credit or to participate on the co-curricular level.

Dance Ensemble

The Pitt-Johnstown Dance Ensemble promotes and furthers the appreciation of dance as an art form. The group performs one dance production during the spring term.

Pitt-Johnstown Theatre Club 

A theatre club that presents performances throughout the year. Visit the PPAC website to view exciting theatre productions coming this year.

WUPJ-TV

The goal of WUPJ-TV is to provide students the opportunity to gain a deeper education in the field of television, the possibility of technical television experience and the chance to achieve goals in broadcast journalism in the television medium.

This is achieved in cooperation with the UPJ Communications department. WUPJ-TV maintains a philosophy of gaining new skills and improving natural skills through a high standard of professionalism for possible use in a related career.
