Fall Dining

What's new in Campus Dining?

On behalf of everybody in Dining Services we can't wait to see you on campus!  We also would like to take this opportunity to share some important updates!  Remember that meal plans will go into effect with the evening meal in PJ's on Sunday, August 25.

Hot Breakfast Is Back!

Hot breakfast has returned to PJ's!  Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday (brunch is served on the weekends).

Smokeland Is Here!

Following last spring's vote, Smokeland has taken up residence in the Tuck Shop, replacing Tso Good as the Student Choice option.  Smokeland offers chef-crafted BBQ sauces and rubs using a medley of spices you won't find in traditional-style BBQ.  Rotating features include chicken, pork, and brisket platters and sandwiches along with mouth-watering sides including cornbread, potato salad, Quattro mac & cheese, and Uglies Smokeland chips.  Several Smokeland menu items are available as meal exchanges.

Go-Green Has Gone Greener!

We have expanded the Go-Green program to include a reusable, insulated cup.  Go-Green offers you the opportunity to get your PJ's meals on a to-go basis using a reusable, insulated container.  All residential meal plan holders get one free container and cup per year.  A used container can be returned and exchanged for a sanitized one each time you return to PJ's for another to-go meal (cups are not exchangeable for clean one).

Expanded Meal Exchanges

We have expanded the meal exchange menu for this year to give more options in locations including Pizza Pitt and Pitt Stop.  The menu also includes several options at Smokeland.  Remember that meal exchanges must be ordered via Boost.

Apps

Chartwells, our dining services provider, uses two apps that we encourage you to download.  The first one, Boost, is our online ordering app.  You can order meals on Boost using your meal swipes (meal exchanges), dining dollars, Mountain Cat Cash, or a credit card.  The second app is Dine on Campus (it's also available as a web page: dineoncampus.com/upj).  Dine on Campus provides you with full menus for all of our locations, as well as nutritional information.  There's also a calendar of events where you can find out about all the exciting happenings in the dining program!  If you have a food allergy you can self-identify using Dine on Campus…that helps us make sure your dining experience is not only delicious, but safe!

Food Allergies & Special Diets

Chartwells' "Don't be Shy, Self-Identify" program provides an opportunity for you to communicate special dietary needs to the members of their culinary team.  If you have a food allergy or dietary restriction related to a medical conditions and/or religion (halal and kosher meals), create a "Don't be Shy" profile using the Dine on Campus app.  A member of the Chartwells culinary team will then contact you to discuss your specific dietary needs and outline ways to ensure a safe and enjoyable dining experience.

Changing Your Meal Plan

Meal plan changes can be made through the third full day of the semester.  The deadline to change your fall semester meal plan is 5 p.m., Wednesday, August 28.  You can change to a higher meal plan at any time during the semester.  An example of changing to a higher plan is switching to one that includes more meals or dining dollars.  To change your meal plan log into Pitt Passport and go to the Johnstown Campus Housing & Dining Services task center on Pitt Passport.  You can view the complete list of meal plan options and rates on our website.

Chartwells Is Hiring!

We are delighted to share the news that Lacey Gearhart joined the Chartwells team as the new General Manager.  Lacey, who has had a highly successful career in the food service industry, brings an outstanding record of achievement in areas including customer satisfaction, food quality, and employee retention.  She has been hard at work fine tuning things to make your dining experience better than ever.  We think you'll be pleased with the changes!  You can learn more about all of the members of the Chartwells leadership team on their website.
