Dear UPJ Community,
UPJ mourns the loss of our dear friend, John R. Musulin, who grew up in Johnstown, attended Ferndale-Dale High School, then UPJ, and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Economics in 1967. He went on to become a senior executive at Eastman Kodak, where he held a variety of positions in several locations around the world, and subsequently worked at Essilor of America in Florida.
Recently, you all know that John R. Musulin was the benefactor whose deep and abiding love for UPJ and generous gift enabled us to acquire the former Met-Life property. The Pitt Board of Trustees then voted on February 6, 2025, to rename that property to the John R. Musulin University Center, which will house our athletics facilities and new academic programs to position UPJ for success in the new century.
UPJ is deeply saddened by the loss of John R. Musulin, a distinguished alumnus of our institution, a great friend, and an outstanding philanthropist whose life and work brought great credit to our institution. A profoundly wise and thoughtful person of the highest integrity, John had a deep and abiding love for the Johnstown community and a steadfast commitment to his alma mater. Even as we will always miss our great friend, we are honored that his memory and that of his beloved wife, Marsha, will forever be honored and celebrated in the new and magnificent John R. Musulin Center at the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown. We extend our deepest condolences to the family of our dear friend, John R. Musulin.
