University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown

Upper-Class Welcome

Hello, Upper-Class Students!

On behalf of everyone in Housing & Dining Services we hope you had a great summer and are looking forward to welcoming you to campus in less than 2 weeks!  As you get ready to move onto campus there is some information that might come in handy (I apologize in advance for the lengthiness of this message!):

MOVE-IN DAY

Unless you have requested and been approved for an early arrival, all upper-class students will move onto campus Sunday, August 24 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Information on where to check in is available on our fall arrival page

STUDENT ID CARDS

If you are a returning student, remember to bring your ID card with you.  You will need your ID card to access your building and use your meal plan.  If you are a new student and have uploaded your photo, you will get your ID card when you check in.  There is a $30 fee to replace a lost ID card.  If you have lost your ID card, you can request a replacement in the Housing Forms section of the Housing Portal.

2025-2026 RESIDENTIAL HANDBOOK

The newest version of the Residential Handbook is now available online.   Please be sure to familiarize yourself with this document as it contains important housing procedures and policies as well as information on campus dining.

WHAT TO BRING/NOT TO BRING

Remember to check our website to view the list of items that you should and should not bring to campus.  This will help you ensure that you don't forget to bring anything important.

WI-FI

If you created an account last year for the residential wi-fi, you should be able to simply reconnect upon your return.  If you are a new campus resident, instructions on how to setup your account and connect at Johnstown.hed.boldyn.com.  Over the summer, wi-fi download speeds were increased and you can now connect up to 12 devices simultaneously.  Hard-wired internet service is no longer available in the residence halls. Although internet ports still exist in several rooms they are not active.

HOUSING PORTAL

We have completed the migration to the new housing system.  So, you will no longer need to log into Pitt Passport and search.  All housing and dining-related tasks can be completed from the Housing Forms section of the Portal

A FEW REMINDERS...

Room Changes
All room assignments are frozen at this time, which means no changes can be made.  An email message will be sent to all residents once room changes are available (after the first full week of classes).  At that time you will be able to view a list of available spaces on campus and submit a room change request online.  Remember that it is a violation of housing policy to move into a room without authorization.

No Pet Policy
The University does not permit pets in any University residence facility (with exception to a 10-gallon aquarium and fish).  The only exceptions to this policy are service animals and support animals (which need to be approved prior to your arrival).    Any student who brings a pet to campus will be fined $100 per day until the animal is removed.  Please do not bring pets to campus on your assigned move in day.

Campus Shuttle
The campus shuttle service will resume operation on Monday, August 25.  Service is available from campus to College Park Apartment and Richland Town Center.  There is no fee for using the shuttle, but students must present their student ID card in order to ride.  A schedule is available online.

Campus Dining
Several enhancements have been made to the campus dining program for the upcoming year.  Be sure to read the dining update email that you received last week.  If you didn’t save it, you can view it here.

As always, don't hesitate to contact our office if you have any questions (814-269-7115/upjhousing@pitt.edu)!  See you soon!
